About the village


This compact medieval town is built on the islands of five branches of the Sorgue river, the river flows through, past, in and around the town. The famed Sunday antique market should not be missed. After the market, enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of several outdoor dining options, many are by the waterside. Even if the many mills are no longer working, some of the waterwheels still turn.

The markets in L'isle sur la Sorgue are well known, on Thursday there is a smaller market but still a very pretty Provencal market. The big market in this town is on the Sunday. Located in the city center, this market is known as one of the most beautiful and varied in Provence.

There are all manners of produce sold from fresh foods, clothes, antiques and more. If you miss the markets then don’t worry, there are many antique shops in town which will be open all week. This is a perfect place to visit after a Saturday arrival.
